A champion performance at Hillheads
By Gavin Donnelly
Respect to today’s opponents South Shields, who travelled to Hillheads with the bare minimum of a squad, 2 injured players on the replacement bench, facing a team who with a win today would be promoted as Champions.
This season we have seen a massive improvement in Rock performances and this was a quintessential display today, power, pace, strength all over the park. Beat what is in front of you is the Rock mantra, and today South Shields felt the brunt of this relentless Rock outfit, who really took no pleasure in amassing a score difference of 140 points. Fair play to Shields for sitting at it, but this was a steady stream of try’s from a Rock outfit hungry for the kill.
Coaches Cunningham and Hamilton selected Bowman, Pentland, Moore, Hamilton C, Hayton, Reid, Cotton, and Hamilton R in the pack, with Leach, Hanson, Ramage, Johnstone, Fenwick, Straker, and back from the UAE, Rapallo at fullback. Webster, Dawson, and last weeks cup winning captain Cormack, warmed the bench.
It would probably be easier to say who didn’t score, Tom, but the tries were notched by
Cotton, Cotton, Fenwick, Ramage, Ramage, Ramage, Straker, Cotton, Pentland, Hamilton R, Cotton, Straker, Pentland, Hamilton R, Fenwick, Dawson, Leach, Bowman, Hayton, Ramage, Rapillo, Johnstone, Hayton. 23 tries 16 of which converted by Johnstone which made him the days top points scorer.
Shields knocked over 3 well taken penalties.
Hamilton R was awarded the MOM, much to the pleasure of his agent and cameraman, wit and professional Yorkshireman,Simon Tindall. He were wright chuffed he were.
Afterwards there was a celebration in the changers, but no loss of focus as this team wants that 100% season, with Houghton away next week and a final home match against a much improved Ashington to come.
We depart this league after arriving 18 year ago, and as Champions. Well done to all.
Away next week to Houghton, see you there Ultras
No let up mind !
