Whitley Bay Rockcliff 20 Percy Park 41

Old rivals Rockcliff and Percy Park kept the traditional Boxing Day fixture going and served up an entertaining game on a cold blustery day at Hillheads.

The Red and Golds got off the mark first when Michael Hansen made light of the conditions to slot home a penalty after three minutes. The game was everly balanced for the ten minutes but Park began to press Rockcliff back and were rewarded when good forward play saw them drive over to score in the left corner. A great conversion from Paul Spowarr put them 7 3 up.
This spurred Rockcliff into action and, taking advantage of Park being a man down following a yellow card, Niall Stokes crashed over from a penalty move. Hansen added the extras for 10 7.
Spowart equalised with a penalty , but as half time approach, Hansen scored his second penalty of the day to edge Rockcliff ahead and it was 13 10 at the break.
Park upped the gears in the second half, with an unconverted try just after the restart, and they dominated the next twenty minutes of the game, scoring three further tries, two converted by Spowart, to go 34 13 up.
Rockcliff steadied the ship, and a spell of good pressure led to Connor Madden finishing off a multiphase move. Hansen converted for 20 34.
Park had the final say, with a break away down the left wing leading to the final try of the game. Hooker Adam Hay drilled home the conversion from thirty metres out. Park's try scorers on the day were Ross Young, Johnny Dubois, Paul Spowert, Leo Cauldfield, Drew Walker and Josh Hedley.
